Why is New Employee Training Important?

Training program teaches the starters or new hires about the company policies, employee roles, department structure and so on…

When employee training sessions are conducted effectively the new hires contribute much to organization. If training sessions are disjointed, the new hires will struggle to catch up the operating procedures, company culture and policies.

New employee training sessions are conducted for practical reasons such as to provide insights into the job role, familiarity with company policies and procedures, demos on how to use the enterprise tools. If new employees are supported in initial days of job, then they can built the morale and can face un certainties. Training is very important for new hires because, after training reporting manager will observe the employee performance before and after training how he is handling the tasks, his communication skills, how he is mingling with different departments, any innovative ideas brought by the employee that improved the organization to next level, errors made by the new hire, how he is reacting to situations.. these all the things will be considered and rating will be given by the relevant persons which influence the employee.

Hence, it is important for companies to train new employees:

Ø     Employees will come to know company’s vision, achievements.

Ø    Employees will learn rules, regulations that apply to their job responsibilities.
Ø    Employees understand how the organization and their department operates.
Ø  Employees get familiar with the type of job they will be handling and resources they need to accomplish the tasks.



     Five methods used for Training new employees:

1.On-the-Job Training:                                                                                       
In this training, Instructor or supervisor will instruct the experienced employee. Training in crafts, trades, technical areas etc..is given by keeping unskilled or semi-skilled worker under the guidance of skilled worker.

2.Off-the-Job Training:

This type of training is seen in large enterprises or specialized institutes. In this type of training, trainee will leave the place of work and spend time for training. Enterprises like TISCO, ITC, Steel Authority of India will have their own training institutes.

3.Apprenticeship Training:

This type of training is for four to five years. Worker will get theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge in this training. This type of training is seen in industries such as metal, printing and building construction. Worker will also get stipend during training period.

4.Vestibule Training:

Vestibule means hall or lobby next to the outer door of a building. Under this training, workers are trained on special machines in a separate location i.e.. classrooms.

5.Internship Training:

This training is provided either offline or online. Specific roles are given to students and are supposed to work where they practical knowledge in training. Only few companies provide stipend.
